About
I’m Leeon. I like turning ideas into things. I write backend code, build apps, and have crammed far too many services onto a cloud server with 1.6 GB of RAM. Mostly, though, I make small, opinionated tools for an audience of one — me. Every now and then one of them escapes into the wild.
It usually starts with a little annoyance I hit three times in a week. The first time I sigh, the second time I take notes, and the third time it becomes a repo.
What I’m building
WeekPage — a floating window I call up with a hotkey, with my calendar, to-dos, inbox and task board side by side. Things like “get the slides done within three days” or “waiting for them to reply” expire on a calendar and get lost in a plain list, so each kind of thing keeps its own shape, and anything dated inside a task shows up on the calendar by itself. The data stays on my machine. I use it every day on my Mac; it isn’t public yet.
A few other things in the nest:
- Mynah — a language-learning tool built around hearing things first. Highlight some text on your Mac, hit a hotkey, and a voice reads it out loud.
- steno — turns videos into notes you can actually read.
- plate — write a post once, then render it for every platform.
- capstone — puts CapsLock to work: tap for English, double-tap for Chinese, hold it for launchers.
- infra-fleet — my little fleet of servers, kept as code.
Things I believe
- The code is the ground truth. Docs that disagree with it are fan fiction.
- A good tool disappears. If you still notice it, it isn’t done yet.
- Naming things is hard, so I dig into etymology until it gets easier.
About the bird
The bird in the header is a mynah, and it mimics: whatever title you rest on, it reads back to you. Poke it and it hops; turn the lights off and it goes to sleep. It only repeats and never makes things up. My language-learning app is named after the same bird, since copying is how anyone learns to talk.
This site
It’s built with Astro as plain static pages and served from a tiny nginx container. There’s a Chinese and an English version; the posts themselves I write in Chinese.
Say hi
Want to swap notes on tools, agents or language learning? Or just passing through? Either way, open an issue on any of my repos, or simply say hi. My handle, heyleeon, already does half the work.
